Meta restricts Albanian activist accounts amid Kushner-linked protests
Dozens of Instagram accounts belonging to Albanian activists, journalists, and opposition politicians have been suspended or restricted. This occurs amid nearly 100 days of ongoing protests known as the ‘Flamingo Revolution.’
The demonstrations initially targeted a luxury resort project on Albania's southern coast linked to Jared Kushner. The movement has since expanded into a broader campaign demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the entire Albanian government.
Italian Member of the European Parliament Sandro Gozi has called on Meta to provide an immediate explanation for these actions, stating that the simultaneous disappearance of multiple profiles related to the same movement cannot be dismissed as a mere technical issue. Affected users have rejected claims of copyright violations, asserting that the content removed consisted of their own original footage and photography used to document protests and police clashes.
