Meta smart glasses launch in Colombia

Meta's new smart glasses, including the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta models, have entered the Colombian market, marking a significant expansion for wearable technology. These devices integrate photography, video, audio, and artificial intelligence, allowing users to perform hands-free tasks such as taking photos or receiving voice-commanded recommendations.

The integration of Meta AI introduces specific privacy considerations. While the glasses can function as a standard portable camera, the multimodal AI features require the device to capture and send images, audio, or transcriptions to Meta's servers to interpret the user's environment and generate responses. Although Meta provides controls to manage and delete stored media, the use of AI visual functions means that certain captured data is processed by the system rather than just being stored locally.
