Meta smart glasses face privacy protest in London

An activist group, ‘Everyone Hates Elon’, has launched a satirical protest in London against Meta’s smart glasses. A billboard appeared near the company’s King’s Cross headquarters featuring the phrase ‘Glasses for those who do not respect consent’.

The protest uses the image of Jeffrey Epstein to highlight concerns regarding privacy and the potential for unauthorized recording. Activists argue that the integrated cameras in the smart glasses make it difficult for people in public spaces to know when they are being filmed or recorded.

Critics have raised further concerns about how video data collected by these devices is used, specifically regarding its role in training artificial intelligence systems. There are also ongoing debates about whether the small indicator lights on the device frames are sufficient to alert bystanders to active recording.
