Meta tests video-centric updates for Facebook and WhatsApp

Meta is testing several updates to its platforms to prioritize short-form video content, mirroring the user experience found on TikTok. In India, Facebook is testing a new interface that drops users directly into an immersive, full-screen video feed upon opening the app. This shift aims to capitalize on the high engagement with video content in the region, where over 60% of users consume video on the platform.

Additionally, WhatsApp is developing a 2x playback speed feature for its Status section. This tool, currently being tested on iOS and Android beta versions, allows users to speed up video clips by long-pressing the right side of the screen, similar to mechanics used on Instagram and TikTok.

Instagram is also conducting tests in select countries to make Reels the primary view when users open the application. While these features are being rolled out to increase time spent on video, Meta has indicated that users will maintain the ability to switch back to traditional layouts.
