Meta tests Threads Friends feature for private sharing
Meta is currently testing a new feature for its Threads platform called “Threads Friends,” which allows users to share posts with a restricted group of up to 50 people. This functionality, which uses the informal term “Thriends” for group members, is designed to give users more control over their audience, offering a more private alternative to public posting.
Similar to Instagram’s “Close Friends” or the discontinued Twitter Circles, the feature allows for a more intimate conversational experience. When creating a list, Threads may suggest accounts based on frequent interactions, though users can manually curate their groups. Once a list is established, posts shared with these friends can be accessed via a dedicated green bubble at the top of the feed, displaying content shared within the last 24 hours.
The testing phase is currently limited to users in Ireland, Italy, and Japan.
