Meta introduces WhatsApp monetization and AI security features

Meta is implementing significant changes to its WhatsApp ecosystem, including new monetization models and security features. Starting August 1, 2026, Meta will charge for its AI agent platform, the Meta Business Agent, using a token-based system. Subsequently, on October 1, 2026, all service messages sent by businesses within a 24-hour window—whether via humans, chatbots, or third-party AI—will be charged individually. In Brazil, this includes a fee of approximately US$ 0.0068 per message.

To combat rising digital fraud, WhatsApp is testing a “Scam Alert” feature. This tool uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze messages from unknown senders, identifying patterns and keywords typical of scams to warn users before they interact with malicious links or requests.

In the business sector, companies are increasingly adopting autonomous AI agents to manage customer interactions. Startup Anything operates over 150 agents across platforms like Slack and iMessage, while Lambda Labs has developed “IAsmin,” an autonomous sales agent for WhatsApp designed to provide 24-hour coverage and improve lead conversion rates.
