Meta unveils lower‑priced smart glasses in partnership with EssilorLuxottica
Meta announced a new line of smart glasses developed with eyewear group EssilorLuxottica, priced from $299, considerably below the current $379 price of Ray‑Ban’s smart glasses. The devices support photo and video capture, music playback, phone calls and an integrated AI assistant that can translate spoken language into 14 languages in real time. Two Oakley‑branded models start at $399, while the premium Meta Ray‑Ban Display is priced around $800. Alex Himel, Meta’s vice‑president for wearable devices, said the lower price aims to broaden the market.
User feedback on the Meta Ray‑Ban Display notes a tighter facial fit and a detachable wrist‑band controller that allows finger gestures for navigation. Reviewers mention that the display can be turned on or off at will and that the glasses may require contact lenses for users with strong vision prescriptions. The launch comes as competitors accelerate their own efforts: Snap introduced its Specs smart glasses at $2,195 and Apple is expected to release a proprietary AR headset by 2027.
