Meta updates WhatsApp Business Platform messaging fees
Meta is implementing changes to its WhatsApp Business Platform billing structure, affecting how companies use the API for large-scale customer service and automation. Starting October 1, 2026, certain messages sent through the platform will be charged per delivery once free limits are exceeded.
Under the new model, service responses sent within a 24-hour window will be billed individually, regardless of whether they are sent by a human or an automated chatbot. Additionally, utility templates—such as order confirmations, receipts, or shipping notifications—will be charged from the first instance. Meta will continue to provide a monthly allowance of 1,000 free service messages per business number.
These changes do not apply to individual users or small businesses using the standard WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business apps. Personal accounts will not be charged for sending texts, files, or making calls, despite viral misinformation suggesting otherwise. The costs are borne by the organizations using the API for CRM, chatbots, or other automation tools.
