Metabolic flexibility refers to the body's ability to efficiently switch between using glucose and fat as fuel. While humans are naturally designed to be metabolically flexible—utilizing stored fats during periods of scarcity—modern dietary habits and constant food availability have led to a decline in this capability. Improving this flexibility can aid in weight management, physical performance, and the prevention of metabolic diseases.

Furthermore, research suggests that the timing of physical activity may influence glycemic control. Studies indicate that performing moderate to vigorous exercise in the evening, specifically between 18:00 and 00:00, may be associated with lower average 24-hour glucose concentrations. This effect is particularly notable in individuals with prediabetes or metabolic alterations, as exercise helps improve insulin sensitivity.
