Metabolic health indicators and lifestyle habits

Medical experts emphasize that a lean physique is not a definitive indicator of metabolic health. Endocrinologists suggest that insulin sensitivity is a far more accurate measure of how efficiently the body manages energy, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

While a stable weight is often associated with a good metabolism, individuals can appear thin while still suffering from metabolic disorders or insulin resistance. This condition can develop silently over years, increasing the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and fatty liver disease. Doctors assess metabolic health through indicators such as fasting glucose and insulin levels, glycated hemoglobin, and lipid profiles.

To support metabolic function, experts recommend strength training, high protein consumption, eliminating ultra-processed foods, ensuring adequate sleep, and managing stress. Additionally, certain evening habits can influence nocturnal metabolism, such as consuming protein-rich dinners two to three hours before sleep and maintaining a cooler bedroom temperature (ideally between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius) to promote the activation of brown fat.
