Metabolic interventions show promise in treating obesity and mental health
Recent medical studies have highlighted the significant impact of metabolic interventions on both physical and mental health. A three-year study by the University of Porto Faculty of Medicine involving 383 patients demonstrated that bariatric or metabolic surgery reduces the burden of obesity-related diseases by 36%. Key findings included a reduction in dyslipidemia prevalence from 47% to 15%, hypertension from 41% to 21%, and type 2 diabetes from 26% to 10%.
In a separate pilot study led by Stanford University, researchers found that a ketogenic diet could serve as a powerful complementary tool for treating severe mental illnesses. The study observed that approximately 79% of patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder who adhered to a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet showed significant clinical improvement. Additionally, all participants with metabolic syndrome at the start of the study achieved remission by the end of the four-month period.
