Metal recycling gains importance amid rising raw material demand
Increasing demand for metals such as copper, steel, and aluminum is driving the importance of scrap collection and recycling. As industries face raw material shortages due to high demand, limited mining supply, and geopolitical tensions, recycling serves as a critical method to return valuable materials to the industrial cycle.
The transition to new energy infrastructures, including electric vehicles, battery storage, and wind turbines, is significantly increasing the need for these resources. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects higher demand for several key materials through 2040, with copper, graphite, nickel, and rare earth elements remaining central to the electrification process.
