Metalfor plant in Noetinger reverses 35 layoffs amid ongoing labor dispute
Union leader Francisco Agüero said Metalfor cancelled 35 dismissals at its Noetinger plant after the UOM filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labor, which ordered the company to reverse the layoffs. The dismissals had been announced on the day Argentina played Egypt, and the union called them illegal.
Agüero stressed that the reversal does not resolve the broader conflict. He mentioned a mysterious investment fund that is seeking the company's bankruptcy as a creditor, which could further endanger the roughly 400 workers employed at Metalfor’s two plants. The company has also indicated plans to cease production in Noetinger and lay off about 170 employees across Noetinger and Marcos Juárez, proposing reduced, installment‑based severance that the union and the Ministry rejected. A new meeting on 21 July will decide the workers’ fate.
