Metallus commissions new Ohio assets to bolster U.S. Army munitions supply
Metallus and the U.S. Army have officially commissioned new manufacturing assets at the Gambrinus facility in Canton, Ohio. The expansion includes a bloom reheat furnace, a roller furnace, and supporting equipment designed to increase production capabilities for specialty metals.
The project is supported by a nearly $100 million funding commitment from the U.S. Army, alongside workforce and economic development assistance from JobsOhio. These investments aim to strengthen the domestic munitions supply chain and bolster U.S. national security by improving the production of materials used for artillery and mortar shell applications.
Metallus has supplied specialty steel for essential Army applications for over 30 years. The new assets are expected to enhance operational efficiency, product quality, and manufacturing flexibility while revitalizing domestic manufacturing capabilities.
