Gold prices decline amid rising oil and interest rate concerns

Gold prices have experienced a significant downturn, with spot gold trading near $4,094 to $4,121 per ounce. This decline follows a period of losses and is driven by rising oil prices and heightened inflation concerns. Brent crude rose to approximately $111.24 per barrel, fueled by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, specifically following a drone attack on a Saudi Aramco oil field in Saudi Arabia that resulted in two deaths.

Investors are closely monitoring the upcoming US Federal Reserve meeting on October 27-28. While markets largely expect interest rates to remain unchanged next week, there is an 80% to 90% probability priced in for a potential rate hike in December. The prospect of sustained high interest rates increases the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like gold.

In addition to gold, other precious metals have seen declines. Silver fell to approximately $53.98 to $57.33 per ounce, while platinum and palladium also experienced downward pressure. Market participants are also awaiting upcoming US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) data, a key metric for the Federal Reserve's 2% inflation target.
