Metalworkers in Sarroch and Macchiareddu seek relief from rising fuel costs
Metalworkers in the Sarroch and Macchiareddu industrial areas have issued an appeal to Federmeccanica and the regional government regarding unsustainable fuel costs. The trade unions Fiom Cgil, Fsm Cisl, and Uilm Uil have requested a formal meeting to discuss financial relief for employees.
Representatives Marco Mereu, Marco Angioni, and Massimo Palmas, along with a coordination of delegates, are calling for a travel indemnity funded by the employers' association and regional discounts to encourage public transport use. The unions noted that workers are currently forced to use private vehicles due to a lack of reliable public transportation that covers various work shifts, including overtime.
Because of these rising costs, a significant portion of workers' wages is being consumed by commuting expenses. The unions emphasized that these workers operate in strategic sites, such as the Sarroch refinery, which is vital for maintaining continuous production given the current international situation.
