MetaMask launches AI‑powered Agent Wallet for autonomous crypto transactions

MetaMask has introduced Agent Wallet, an early‑access, non‑custodial crypto wallet that lets artificial‑intelligence agents execute swaps, perpetual futures, liquidity provision and prediction‑market trades on Ethereum‑compatible chains and Hyperliquid. Users must set spending limits, approved transaction lists and other rules; each transaction is simulated and screened by Blockaid, with risky actions triggering two‑factor authentication. The platform’s Transaction Protection program covers eligible safe trades for up to $10,000.

Agent Wallet supports multiple AI development environments, including OpenAI Codex, Claude, Cursor and others, and is currently available to a limited group via a command‑line interface, with broader rollout planned for later summer. The launch follows a broader industry move toward AI‑enabled finance, as firms such as Gemini, Base, Coinbase, Trust Wallet and Cobo have released similar tools that allow autonomous agents to interact with DeFi protocols while keeping private keys out of the agents' hands.

The development reflects growing interest in automating 24/7 DeFi activity, but also raises security, compliance and liability concerns, as mis‑configurations or software bugs could lead to fund losses. No major incidents have been reported yet for these new AI‑agent wallets.
