MetaOptics Deploys Direct Laser Writer at University of Arizona
MetaOptics announced an agreement to install its Direct Laser Writer (DLW) system at the University of Arizona's Center of Semiconductor Manufacturing. The DLW, designed for 4‑inch wafers, will enable rapid prototyping and small‑volume production of metalens components, creating a "mini‑foundry" for pilot builds and customer evaluation. Installation is scheduled to begin in 2027.
University researchers, led by Dr. Krishna Muralidharan of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, will conduct collaborative research and technical validation. MetaOptics aims to gather user feedback, demonstrate its metalens manufacturing equipment to prospective U.S. customers, and support emerging initiatives in silicon photonics, co‑packaged optics, and integrated photonics.
