MetaOptics expands metalens manufacturing with new Malaysian subsidiary
Singapore-based semiconductor optics company MetaOptics Ltd has established a wholly owned subsidiary, MetaOptics Technologies Sdn. Bhd., to expand its metalens manufacturing and engineering operations in Southeast Asia.
The company plans to develop a capital equipment facility in Penang, Malaysia, featuring three primary manufacturing and testing platforms. These include an automated assembly and testing system for metalens camera modules, a 12-inch direct laser writer (DLW) platform for high-volume production of co-packaged optics, and an automated wafer-level optical testing system capable of measuring performance across visible, near-infrared, and short-wave infrared wavelengths.
By locating fabrication, assembly, and testing operations in close proximity in Penang, MetaOptics aims to shorten development cycles and facilitate the transition from prototypes to volume production. The expansion is intended to support collaborations with local suppliers in semiconductor manufacturing, integrated photonics, and nanophotonics. While expanding into Malaysia, the company will maintain its headquarters and core research and development center in Singapore.
