Metaplanet reports 182.7 billion yen net loss due to Bitcoin valuation

Metaplanet Inc. reported a significant net loss of 182.7 billion yen for the first half of its fiscal year ending December 2026. The loss was primarily driven by a 184.2 billion yen non-operating valuation loss on its Bitcoin holdings.

Despite the massive net loss, the company's core business showed growth. Revenue for the first half reached 4.9 billion yen, a 133.7% increase year-on-year, while operating profit rose 136.3% to 3.3 billion yen. The company noted that the Bitcoin valuation loss does not involve actual cash outflows and that no Bitcoin was sold during the period.

As of the end of June, Metaplanet held 43,000 BTC, ranking it as the third-largest holder among listed companies globally. Due to the volatility of Bitcoin prices, the company has not provided full-year forecasts for ordinary or net profit.
