Metaponto: 18-year-old arrested for sexual assault of a teenager

An 18-year-old man of Tunisian origin has been arrested following the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl in Metaponto, located in the province of Matera. The incident occurred during the night of the Ferragosto holiday in a secluded area near the beach, specifically on a bench hidden by vegetation near the seafront.

Carabinieri from the Pisticci Company responded to the scene, where they found the victim in a state of shock. She was treated by emergency medical services and transported to the Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Policoro. Medical examinations reportedly confirmed the assault.

The suspect, who is a legal resident of Italy, was located by authorities in the same area at dawn. Police seized the suspect's clothing and mobile phone as part of the investigation. He has been arrested in flagrante delicto and placed under judicial custody pending a hearing before the judge of the Matera Court.
