Metchosin Fire Department rescues stranded goat from cliff

The Metchosin Fire Department successfully rescued a domestic goat that had become stranded on a cliff-face ledge on a property in British Columbia. The animal had tumbled over the edge on Sunday night, October 4, and was unable to climb back to safety.

On Monday morning, October 5, firefighters and trained rope rescue technicians arrived at the scene. The crew had to clear thick brush before descending the cliff to reach the animal. To ensure a safe retrieval, a technician used treats to calm the goat before securing it in a harness. The goat was then carefully lowered to the ground and reunited with its owner.

Witnesses Shannon Burnside and Melony Gilbert observed the operation, noting the difficulty of the descent and a close call with falling rocks. The Metchosin Fire Department stated that the incident highlights the importance of regular technical rescue training to prepare for diverse community calls involving both people and animals.
