Meten=Weten presents Sustainable Throne Speech 2026 to Dutch Minister

During the Duurzame Dinsdag event, the association Meten=Weten presented the 'Sustainable Throne Speech 2026' to the Minister of Climate and Green Growth, Stientje van Veldhoven. Delivered by Frans Rooijers, the speech emphasizes the urgent need for sustainable agriculture and criticizes the government for failing to uphold environmental regulations in sectors such as aviation, heavy industry, and farming.

Rooijers argued that the executive branch is ignoring judicial rulings, which undermines the rule of law and erodes public trust. A specific concern was raised regarding unsustainable pesticide use, noting that chemicals are migrating into residential areas and nature reserves despite existing mitigation efforts.

A corresponding trend report from Duurzame Dinsdag highlights a growing movement of tens of thousands of grassroots social initiatives in the Netherlands. The report suggests that while 75% of Dutch citizens are concerned about climate change, they are increasingly taking direct responsibility for environmental solutions due to perceived institutional inaction.
