Meteorologist John Morales warns of declining weather forecast accuracy

John Morales, a meteorologist and hurricane specialist with NBC6 in South Florida, issued an on-air warning regarding the declining reliability of weather forecasting. During a broadcast about an upcoming storm, Morales stated, “I am not sure I can do that this year,” referring to his ability to confidently predict hurricane paths and weather patterns.

Morales attributed this loss of confidence to what he described as a “sledgehammer attack on science.” He presented data highlighting severe understaffing at the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). According to Morales, these agencies have lost hundreds of experts due to layoffs, resignations, and employees accepting buyouts related to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
