Methods to reduce indoor humidity and window condensation

Condensation on windows and indoor humidity are common issues during autumn and winter, often leading to mold growth and potential health risks such as allergies and asthma. These problems arise when warm, moist indoor air contacts cold window glass.

One effective method to combat this is the German technique known as ‘Stoßlüften’, or shock ventilation. This involves fully opening windows and doors on opposite sides of a building for three to ten minutes to create a strong draft that replaces moist air with fresh, dry air. This is considered more efficient than leaving windows partially open for extended periods.

Additionally, certain indoor plants can act as natural dehumidifiers. Experts suggest that specific plants can absorb excess moisture from the environment, helping to regulate humidity levels and improve air quality without the need for chemical products.
