Metin Atan criticizes price controls and parliamentary efficiency

Metin Atan, President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Servants Union (KAMUSEN), has criticized the lack of price inspections in Northern Cyprus. He highlighted a significant disparity in meat prices, noting that while one kilogram of meat costs approximately 600 TL in South Cyprus, the price in the North ranges between 1,800 and 1,900 TL.

Atan emphasized that the government's fundamental duty is to protect citizens, including minimum wage earners, private sector employees, and small tradespeople, rather than empowering stronger economic sectors.

Additionally, Atan called for parliamentary reforms. He proposed that the Assembly should operate five days a week and suggested that salary deductions should be implemented for members of parliament who fail to attend work. He also advocated for a review of the current number of 50 members of parliament, arguing that the system should be evaluated holistically, covering working arrangements, responsibilities, and the quality of public services provided in exchange for taxes.
