Metis facility fire in Kukuljanovo triggers air quality monitoring

A new fire broke out at the Metis company plant in the Kukuljanovo industrial zone near Rijeka on Monday afternoon. The blaze, which started around 2:00 PM, affected a recycling machine and was difficult to extinguish due to the inaccessible location of the fire within the equipment.

This incident marks the third fire at Metis facilities within a month, following a large fire at the Kukuljanovo warehouse on September 24 and another at the company’s recycling center in Pula on October 9. The previous incidents caused significant smoke and led to public health warnings for residents in areas including Bakar, Čavle, and Sveti Kuzma.

The Primorsko-Primorsko-Goranska County Institute of Public Health conducted field measurements in Kukuljanovo and Sveti Kuzma following the latest blaze. Preliminary results from four testing locations, including the immediate vicinity of the fire, indicated no presence of dangerous compounds. Health authorities stated they will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as new findings emerge.
