METLEN secures landmark gallium supply contract with US tech giant
METLEN Energy & Metals PLC announced a long‑term commercial agreement to supply roughly 25 % of the annual gallium output from its planned Greek production plant to a leading United States technology company. The terms of the deal are confidential.
The contract is the first substantial gallium off‑take between a European producer and a US tech firm. Gallium is a critical raw material for artificial‑intelligence systems, renewable‑energy infrastructure, telecommunications and defence applications. Production at the new plant is slated to begin in 2027 and reach 50 tonnes per year by 2028, enough to meet the entire EU demand.
The project has been designated a Strategic Project under the EU Critical Raw Materials Act and receives financing support from the European Investment Bank. Executive Chairman Evangelos Mytilineos said the agreement opens a new industrial chapter for Greece and Europe and strengthens EU supply‑chain resilience for critical materials.
