MetLife Stadium to Host 2026 FIFA World Cup Final as NY State Offers Free Public Watch Event
MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey will host the FIFA World Cup 2026 final on July 19, 2026. The venue, which seats 82,500, will also host eight other matches—including group‑stage games, a round of 32, and a round of 16—throughout the tournament, which features an expanded 48‑team format across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Organizers project more than 1 million visitors to the New York‑New Jersey region and an economic impact exceeding US$2 billion, supporting about 14 000 jobs in hospitality, retail and related services.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that registration is open for a free public‑viewing experience at Kensico Dam Plaza in Westchester County on the same day. The event will accommodate thousands of fans with interactive zones, live music, food‑truck vendors and youth‑soccer activities, aiming to make the historic final accessible to working‑class families, military personnel and first responders. Both initiatives underscore the broader strategy to channel World Cup tourism revenue into local communities and youth‑sports programs.
