Metrô-DF workers announce indefinite strike in Distrito Federal
Workers of the Metrô-DF in the Distrito Federal have approved an indefinite strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 1. The decision was reached during an assembly organized by the SindMetrô-DF union following months of failed negotiations with the company and the local government.
The primary demand of the workers is the implementation of a new public civil service exam to address a personnel deficit estimated at approximately 600 employees. The union notes that the last major selection for permanent staff occurred 13 years ago. They also seek the fulfillment of collective bargaining agreements and the acceptance of a mediation proposal from the Labor Court (TRT-10).
Metrô-DF has stated that the administrative process for a new exam is currently undergoing review by the State Secretariat of Economy (SEEC-DF). The company indicated it is working to expedite the process to allow for the entry of new staff. The strike is expected to impact approximately 160,000 daily passengers, particularly in regions such as Ceilândia, Samambaia, and Águas Claras.
