Metra train strikes crashed vehicle in Barrington, killing man
A 77-year-old man died following a multi-vehicle accident and subsequent collision with a Metra train in Barrington, Illinois. The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Route 14 (Northwest Highway) and Hart Road.
Authorities report that a three-vehicle crash involving a truck, a black BMW, and a red Chevrolet Malibu occurred first. Following the initial collision, the Chevrolet became stuck on the Union Pacific Northwest train tracks. A Metra train subsequently struck the vehicle, causing major damage and pushing it off the road.
The victim, identified by the Lake County Coroner's Office as Robert Scheurich of Carpentersville, was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead later that evening. Preliminary autopsy results indicate the cause of death was blunt-force injuries.
