Solar energy expansion: New major projects announced in Spain and Costa Rica

Major solar energy projects are advancing in Spain and Costa Rica. In Villarrobledo, Spain, Ørsted Onshore Spain II, S. L. has initiated environmental processing for the Clavellinas photovoltaic project. The installation is projected to feature 244,128 solar panels across approximately 250 hectares, aiming for an installed capacity of 139.68 MW.

In Costa Rica, the Spanish infrastructure group Aldesa, in partnership with Ozul, has been awarded an $89 million contract for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the Abangares solar plant in Guanacaste. This project, a collaboration between the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) and the Coopeguanacaste cooperative, is expected to be operational by August 2028 to help mitigate climate change impacts on the nation's hydroelectric-dependent grid.
