Metro de Granada resumes train testing on southern extension

The Metro de Granada has resumed train testing on the southern extension, which connects Armilla, Churriana de la Vega, and Las Gabias. These tests, conducted by the Junta de Andalucía, involve running units during daylight hours to ensure seamless integration with the new infrastructure, energy systems, and communications networks.

Following the completion of civil works in May, the project is moving toward dynamic testing, which will serve as a general rehearsal before the official inauguration of the new 4.6-kilometer route. These final stages include functional tests, system integration, and “marchas en blanco” (empty runs) to simulate regular service.

The project is co-financed by the European Union through Next Generation funds, with a deadline of December 31 to justify the completion of the intervention. While an official inauguration date has not been confirmed, dynamic testing is expected to begin in September once signaling and installation contracts are finalized.
