Metro de Lisboa passenger flow modelling study

Researchers at the University of Aveiro are developing predictive models to manage passenger flow for the Metro de Lisboa during special events. The study focuses on optimizing public transport during demand peaks, such as football matches involving Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Sporting Clube de Portugal.

The research aims to address gaps in existing models by integrating contextual variables, including weather conditions, event characteristics, and team behavior. Using data from 89 matches held between 2022 and 2023, the study compares the performance of multiple regression and decision tree models to better predict ridership at stations near stadiums.
