Metro de Lisboa updates mobility plans and 5G coverage
The Lisbon City Council has approved a mobility plan to manage the temporary closure of the Metro de Lisboa section between Terreiro do Paço and Santa Apolónia. This closure is required for works related to the Lisbon General Drainage Plan (PGDL). Rather than implementing a single shuttle service, the plan utilizes a network of complementary alternatives. Carris will provide additional surface capacity and direct links to Cais do Sodré and Restauradores, while the Blue Line will remain operational up to Terreiro do Paço. Additionally, CP will maintain service at Santa Apolónia, promoting Oriente, Braço de Prata, and the Cintura Line as alternative access points.
In a separate development regarding the network's infrastructure, MEO has completed the modernization of mobile communications within the Metro de Lisboa. As of October 2, 5G coverage is available across all lines, spanning 56 stations and approximately 44.5 kilometers. The project, conducted in collaboration with Metro de Lisboa and other national operators, supports 2G, 4G, 5G, and IoT services. MEO is now preparing to extend this infrastructure to future stations, including the upcoming connection between Rato and Cais do Sodré via Estrela and Santos.
