Metro Line 6: TBM reaches Piața Montreal station in Bucharest

The tunnel boring machine (TBM) ‘Sfânta Ana’ has successfully breached the wall of the future Piața Montreal station on Bucharest's Metro Line 6. This marks the second TBM to reach this station, following ‘Sfânta Maria’, which arrived on May 15.

As part of the southern section of Line 6, the ‘Sfânta Ana’ machine has completed its third tunnel segment, moving from the Tokyo station toward the 1 Mai station. To date, the double-track tunnel constructed between the future Tokyo, Aeroport Băneasa, Gara Băneasa, and Piața Montreal stations totals nearly 3 km. The ‘Sfânta Ana’ TBM has excavated 2,838 linear meters and assembled 1,887 tunnel rings, with a total planned underground length of 6.6 km to the 1 Mai station.

Metrorex General Director Mariana Miclăuș stated that the project is advancing efficiently. Once completed, Metro Line 6 will provide a modern connection between the Bucharest metro network and Henri Coandă International Airport. The full line is expected to span 14.2 km with 12 stations and utilize 12 new modern trains.
