Metro Manila flooding prompts calls for political accountability

Heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, caused severe flooding and traffic congestion in Metro Manila on Monday, August 17. The weather disrupted travel and submerged homes across the capital.

In response to the recurring crisis, actress Thea Tolentino expressed frustration on social media, stating that such conditions should not be considered normal. She called for greater political accountability and urged Filipino citizens to become more discerning voters. Tolentino emphasized that voters should research the track records and platforms of candidates rather than relying on surnames, political alliances, or campaign promises.

Actor Jon Lucas also documented the impact of the weather, sharing footage of himself stuck in traffic during the heavy downpour while expressing concern for the safety of those affected by the delays.
