Metro Manila Subway reaches 60% completion after tunnel breakthrough

The Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) has reached a major milestone, achieving 60% completion following a successful tunnel breakthrough in Quezon City. A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) completed a 1.13-kilometer excavation, linking the North Avenue and Quezon Avenue sections of the project.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inspected the breakthrough site at the Quezon Avenue Station, descending approximately 35 meters underground to view the TBM arrival shaft. The work was conducted under Contract Package 102 (CP102), valued at PHP 25.538 billion, and involves the Nishimatsu Construction-DMCI Joint Venture.

The project is being financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This development follows the recent groundbreaking for the NAIA Terminal 3 Station under Contract Package 109, which aims to provide the airport with a direct connection to the underground rail system.
