Metro-North unveils locomotive to honor 9/11 anniversary

The MTA has announced the tenth addition to the Metro-North Heritage Fleet, a locomotive designed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The engine is intended to honor victims, first responders, and those affected by the events.

Before entering regular passenger service on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines, the locomotive will be on public display at Grand Central Terminal from September 11 through September 13, 2026.

The Heritage Fleet, which launched in 2023 to mark Metro-North's 40th anniversary, consists of restored GE P32AC-DM dual-mode locomotives featuring classic vinyl liveries that celebrate regional rail history and various historical milestones.
