Metro reaches tentative agreement to end worker strike

Metro and the union representing approximately 550 employees at its Laval warehouse, transport division, and headquarters have reached a tentative agreement to end a strike that began on March 30.

The proposed contract includes a 22% salary increase over five and a half years. This includes a 6% retroactive increase to September 19, 2025, and a 4% raise applicable upon the workers' return to work. The agreement also contains provisions to protect jobs against relocation and improvements to occupational health and safety.

Union members are scheduled to vote on the pact during a general assembly on September 24. The strike has had a notable financial impact on Metro; the company estimated a loss of approximately $64.2 million in profits and direct costs during the third quarter. The Laval facility is a critical hub, supplying more than 350 supermarkets across Quebec.
