Metro Red Line stations to reopen September 7 after major upgrades
Metro has announced the completion of major infrastructure projects on the Red Line, leading to the full reopening of the Bethesda, Medical Center, and Grosvenor-Strathmore stations on Monday, September 7. The summer shutdown, which began on July 6, was utilized to perform critical underground construction and station rehabilitations.
At Bethesda station, crews constructed a new 6,000-square-foot mezzanine designed to eventually connect the Red Line with the upcoming Purple Line. This new structure includes two escalators, two elevators, new faregates, and a station manager kiosk. Officials noted that the project was completed on time and within budget.
At Grosvenor-Strathmore, the station underwent significant platform modernizations. Improvements include new lighting, digital passenger information displays, updated seating, and improved drainage systems. The project also involved structural, electrical, and rehabilitation work across the closed segment to enhance long-term passenger experience.
