Mexico implements security and transit measures for Independence Day
Mexico is observing widespread Independence Day celebrations, marked by significant security deployments and logistical adjustments. In Sinaloa, President Claudia Sheinbaum ordered the deployment of 1,800 additional federal elements, including members of the Navy and the Secretariat of Security and Protection, to reinforce Mazatlán, Culiacán, and major highways amid ongoing regional violence.
In Mexico City, the Independence Day Grito was led by President Sheinbaum at the National Palace, featuring updated historical references. To facilitate public movement, Mexico City Metro Lines 1, 2, and 3 will extend service until 01:00 on September 16, while the network will operate on a holiday schedule. Significant traffic closures and security perimeters are in place throughout the historic center.
Other regional activities include security operations in Baja California Sur and El Marqués, as well as transit modifications in Argentina for the Milagro procession in Salta and student festivities in Jujuy and La Rioja. In Peru, civil works at the Estación Central for Lima's Metro Line 2 have reached 100% completion, marking a major milestone for the project.
