Metro systems in Caracas and Lima introduce new digital transit services

The Metro de Caracas has released instructions for passengers to deactivate lost SUVE cards via its official mobile application or web portal. To protect balances and prevent unauthorized use, users can access the “Consulta de saldo” section within the app to select the linked card and press the deactivation option. After digital suspension, passengers must visit a station operator with a national identity card to purchase a replacement for 150 bolívares. Note that lost balances are not transferred to new cards.

In Lima, the Authority for Urban Transport for Lima and Callao (ATU) has launched a pilot program for the Metropolitano system allowing QR code recharges. This initiative enables passengers to pay using digital wallets such as Yape, Plin, Tunki, and BIM at station recharge machines. The goal is to reduce cash dependency and station queues. The pilot begins at the Andrés Reyes station, with plans to expand to 41 stations across the system, including Barranco, Chorrillos, and northern Lima.
