Metro Transportes do Sul faces strike action in Almada and Seixal

Metro Transportes do Sul (MTS) has issued an alert regarding upcoming strikes organized by the Sindicato Nacional dos Maquinistas dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (SMAQ). The industrial action is expected to cause significant disruptions to transport services in the Almada and Seixal regions.

The strike notice includes full-day stoppages on October 20 and 21. Additionally, partial disruptions are scheduled from October 22 to October 27 or 28, affecting the final two hours of each service.

The SMAQ cites insufficient negotiations, noting that no agreement has been reached in 30 months. Conversely, MTS management expressed surprise at the announcement, claiming they remain open to dialogue and have provided significant wage updates over the last four years. The company stated that the union unilaterally suspended ongoing negotiations in September.
