Metro Transportes do Sul workers launch 100% strike

Workers at Metro Transportes do Sul have launched a strike with 100% participation, according to the Sindicato Nacional dos Maquinistas dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (SMAQ). The strike aims to secure salary updates to address the loss of purchasing power and to improve working conditions.

The industrial action is scheduled as a total strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, transitioning to a partial strike affecting the final two hours of work shifts from Thursday until October 27. During the total strike, only minimum services are being provided on Line 3 (Cacilhas-Universidade) between 07:00 and 09:00.

Management at Metro Transportes do Sul, which serves the Almada and Seixal municipalities in the Setúbal district, described the strike as “disproportionate,” stating they remain open to dialogue and have been implementing effective improvements.
