Metro Türkiye highlights local seafood in Adana's Karataş district
Metro Türkiye has reached the 11th stop of its ‘Yerelin İzinde’ (In the Footsteps of the Local) project, focusing on the Karataş district of Adana. The initiative aims to preserve Turkish culinary values by highlighting local geography, producer labor, and traditional production knowledge.
At the Akyatan Lagoon, the project showcased various aspects of the region's maritime culture, including traditional ‘dalyan’ fishing, mullet harvesting, and the promotion of red shrimp. Participants explored the ecosystem via boat trips and observed how the invasive blue crab species has been converted into a high-export economic resource through regulated harvesting methods.
The program also emphasized the promotion of Mediterranean species such as sea bream and red coral fish. Following the lagoon tour, participants visited processing facilities to examine the preservation, packaging, and distribution processes for seasonal seafood, including jumbo white shrimp, squid, and cuttlefish.
