Metro Vancouver expands Kanaka Creek Regional Park

Metro Vancouver has announced the expansion of Kanaka Creek Regional Park in Maple Ridge through the acquisition of 3.5 hectares of land. The expansion, costing a combined total of $4.3 million, was funded by the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Land Acquisition Fund.

The acquisition includes two parcels. The first is a 3.19-hectare property on Trethewey Crescent that features perched wetlands and mature forest, providing an opportunity to create new off-street trail connections in the park's northeast sector. The second is a smaller parcel on 110 Avenue that previously contained private residential structures. This area is considered critical salmon habitat, providing essential spawning and rearing grounds.

Following the acquisition, buildings and structures on the 110 Avenue property have been removed, and the land within the creek setback area will undergo re-naturalization to restore vegetation.
