Metro Vancouver mayors react to proposed Pacific Link pipeline

Ahead of the October 17, 2026, municipal elections, mayors in the Metro Vancouver region have expressed varying stances on the proposed Pacific Link oil pipeline. The project, designated as being of national interest by Prime Minister Mark Carney, would extend from Edmonton to the eastern Lower Mainland, potentially including a marine export terminal at Roberts Bank.

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim has ruled out legal challenges against the pipeline, which is supported by the governments of Alberta and Canada. Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke has voiced strong support for the project, citing potential investment and job creation. Meanwhile, Delta Mayor George Harvie is seeking an active role in the planning process to address local impacts, specifically regarding the pipeline's proposed endpoint and its interaction with the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 container facility.
