Metrobank upgrades mobile app with investment tools and anti-fraud features

Metrobank has introduced several updates to its mobile banking application, focusing on both enhanced investment capabilities and strengthened anti-fraud security measures.

To expand digital wealth management, the bank launched an upgraded app that allows customers to manage investment portfolios through Unit Investment Trust Funds (UITFs). Users can access over 25 UITFs across various asset classes and currencies, with some investments starting at PHP 1,000. The platform also provides access to peso-denominated government bonds and a consolidated view of overall investment holdings.

In response to rising social engineering attacks, which accounted for 76% of reported cyber fraud losses in 2025 according to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas data, Metrobank implemented new security controls. These include a 24-hour “Cooling-Off Period” that disables transactions following critical security changes, such as password or device updates. Additionally, a “Money Lock” feature allows users to freeze funds to prevent unauthorized transfers, and geolocation checks are used to flag suspicious transaction locations. The app also features Payee Verification to help users confirm recipient names before completing transfers.
