Metrobús launches first all-female operated route in Mexico City

Metrobús has launched the Quetzalcóatl route in Mexico City, marking the first route in the system to be operated exclusively by women. The route connects the Amajac station on Paseo de la Reforma to Terminals 1 and 2 of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM).

There are 48 female drivers assigned to the route, which utilizes 19 electric buses measuring 8.5 meters in length. The vehicles feature a distinctive feathered serpent design inspired by Quetzalcóatl. This initiative is part of a broader gender perspective strategy to increase female participation in historically male-dominated operational sectors.

According to Metrobús, the number of female operators in the system has grown from 33 in February to 80 in October, increasing the total female workforce from 1.6% to 3.7%. Additionally, 57 of these operators have earned professional certification from the National Council for Standardization and Certification of Labor Competencies (CONOCER) to operate rapid transit buses.
